The KCLS collection now includes over 200 titels!
Overview
Over the past four years KCLS has expanded its collection of German language children's books. In Spring 2008 KCLS added 70 titels to the collection. The purchases was made possible through generous donations from within the German speaking community, company matching and funding from the KCLS.
The KCLS collection now includes over 200 titels!
The KCLS holds three copies of each titel, of which at least one his held by the Bellevue branch. Anyone with a library card can barrow these for FREE.
Moreover the KCLS allows its patrons to order the books online (via a hold) to their respective library. So there is no need to drive long hours to pick-up books!

How can I help?
• Make a tax deductible donation to the KCLS Foundation! When donating please make sure to:
- Use the KCLS designated donation form.
- Submit a matching donation form if your employer offers matching (e.g. Microsoft).
• Borrow the books and have your kids read them! Only if the books are actually taken out, we will be able to show the KCLS that there is a strong demand for German language books.
• Spread the word that this is a worthy cause to support!

Order process for KCLS
: How can I borrow the books?
The German language books will be spread across a number of libraries. The Bellevue library is supposed to have one copy of each title in its collection, but the respective book could be out when you get to the library. Therefore, it is highly recommended that you order the books online via a hold and have the books delivered to the KCLS of your choice. Of course, you can also go to your closest KCLS and have the librarian order the book for you.
How can I order a book from my PC?
Prerequisite:
1. King County Library Card
2. Password (PIN)
3. Internet access and an e-mail account (phone)
For further details please see instructions.
Who can borrow the books?
The KCLS has reciprocal borrowing agreements with almost all library systems in the area. As a result, almost everyone in the Puget Sound area can apply for a KCLS library card and subsequently borrow these books. However, since the books have to be picked up at a KCLS Library Location, it may not be as easy for everyone to actually pick up the books.
For more details about the library card, please see the KCLS website.
Does the Seattle Library carry German language books for children and teenagers?
Yes. Using the Keyword Search search for keyword “German Language Materials”. Unfortunately some of the titles are no longer available for borrowing.
If I live in Seattle, can I borrow books from the King County Library System?
Yes! See information posted under ordering from King County Library System. (You must first get a library card, go to www.kcls.org for information on ordering a library card.) |
